KOM Networks announces the release of support for RISC/ULTRIX workstations

KOM Networks is pleased to announce that their OptiFile® II product has been implemented on the RISC workstations from Digital Equipment running RISC/Ultrix™ version 4.2A or later. This implementation provides the same facilities as the VMS™ version of OptiFile II. OptiFile II is implemented as a device driver which permits rewritable, multi-function or WORM optical disks to appear to the systems as magnetic disk drives. Since the optical drive appears to be a magnetic disk, the standard system utilities are used to create and access file systems on the optical media.

Digital's RISC workstations are high performance UNIX™ workstations using a MIPS R3000 RISC processor. The RISC/Ultrix operating system is based on the BSD variant of UNIX™.

All of the production drives which are supported by the VMS version of OptiFile II are supported by the NewsOS™ version. These drives include 5.25" WORM, rewritable and multi-function drives as well as 12" WORM drives.

OptiFile II is also available for Q-bus, UNIBUS and BI bus VAX™ systems, as well as the VAXstation™ 3100, 3520 and 3540 and MicroVAX™ 3100 systems. OptiFile II is also supported by SPARCstation™ and SPARCserver™ systems from Sun Microsystems and NEWS™ workstations from Sony.
