KOM Software announces support for the LMSI LD4100 Drive
Ottawa, ON Canada – November 11, 1991
KOM Software is pleased to announce the latest release of their OptiFile® II product which permits rewritable and WORM optical disks to appear to the systems as magnetic disks. The new version includes support for the LMSI LD4100 optical WORM drive.
The LD4100 drive is the first optical WORM drive which supports access to both sides of the media concurrently. The vendor states the capacity at 5.6Gb. This means that a formatted piece of media will result in more than 5Gb of storage online at one time. While there are other optical media which match or surpass this capacity, only half of the information can be accessed without removing the media and inserting the other side.
OptiFile II is available for Q-bus, UNIBUS and BI bus VAX™ systems, as well as the VAXstation™ 3100, 3520 and 3540 and MicroVAX™ 3100 systems as well as SPARCstation and SPARC server systems from Sun Microsystems.
